Slips-Through-Fingers was an Argonian female whose conjectural existence is one of the questions posed by the Mantling of Akatosh Dragon Break. Slips, as she was often nicknamed, was born to captive parents in Morrowind, and was therefore considered lukiul, an Argonian term for those born outside of Black Marsh who cannot hear the Hist. Her very early life was characterized by her seperation from her family and her journeying to Cyrodiil, an effort in which she was aided by the Twin Lamps.

She was a [REDACTED] born under the [REDACTED] Sign.

Biography

Early Life

Slips-Through-Fingers was born in 3E 409 in a slave clutch near Tear, her exact parentage unrecorded and relatives property of vassals to House Dres. When she was young, she and several of her siblings were transferred to a colony on Vardenfell after the island was finally opened to colonization. Slips-Through-Fingers and a few of his older siblings were able to break free of their restraints and take control of the ship one day out of port. In the ensuing conflict, Slips-Through-Fingers, was cast overboard by one of their captors, and Seeks-His-Heart threw himself overboard after her. Unable to find her in the choppy seas, he swam back to the ship before it had gone entirely out of the range of his endurance. He and his siblings turned the ship after their missing sister but were ultimately unable to sight her again. Slips was never able to rejoin the ship, but proved an instinctive swimmer, and made the mainland. Exhausted and hypothermic, she had the first real stroke of luck in her life - she was happened upon by the Twin Lamps, an abolitionist organization operating in Morrowind.

The group helped her to escape the country, transporting her by sea to Windhelm, and from there she slowly migrated further and further south, attaching herself to trade caravans, seeking warmer climates. Though she was never adopted, she was clever and endearing enough to be pitied by many, and had an easy time charming her way into such travels, or proving herself otherwise useful.

She eventually reached uesp-l:Burma, remained in in the area for nearly ten years. In and around Burma, food was obtainable and septims "procurable". Slips became a known quantity in this area, though not at the time truly noteworthy. Though often returning to Burma, she roamed in the area between Burma and Falkreath often, attempting to stay ahead of her own reputation, since not all of her attempts to feed and fund herself were strictly legal. It was one such exploit that lead to her being detained in the Imperial City Prison, having attempted to steal a horse from the city stables.

Imprisonment

Slips-through-Fingers's personal history joints to the history of the Uncertain Sign Dragon Break after his imprisonment in the Imperial City Prison in the late fall of 3E 433. She remained in prison for several months before the uesp-l:Oblivion Crisis, during which she formed an especial hatred for her fellow long-term prisoner Valen Dreth.

Role in the Dragon Break

Because of her presence on 27th Last Seed, 3E 433, in the cell which connects to the imperial city sewers during the evacuation of the city by Uriel VII and his Blades, Slips-through-Fingers satisfies the conditions to be considered a focus of the Mantling of Akatosh Dragon Break. Her actions from that point onward become ambihistory.

Personality

At the outset of her adventure, Slips through fingers is fundamentally conflict avoidant, going out of her way to avoid opportunities for "adventure" where the risk of becoming involved in direct combat are too great. This is because Slips fundamentally considers herself a thief - and a "good" one - and not a "bandit", with the distinction in her mind being the ability to make and earn her way through skills rather than by cracking heads. This pacifistic streak is tested repeatedly throughout her adventures.

Trivia

  • Despite being shown as the older brother, Seeks-His-Heart was actually created later than Slips-Through-Fingers when the author attempted to come up with a better reason for such a name than being a thief, and the story of their separation was born. At the time, Seeks was a nameless and non-specific older relative.
