Because of the relatively late time at which the author was playing Morrowind (2026, some 24 years (nearly to the day!) after release of the original game, it was not entirely possible or practical to play the game in its pure, vanilla state. Instead, OpenMW was used to play the Game of the Year edition of the game along with a short collection of mods. Mods were chosen based on their freindliness to the lore and minimum intrusiveness to existing gameplay mechanics.

The following Mods were in use at the time of writing:
* [[uesp:Morrowind_Mod:Patch_for_Purists|Morrowind_Mod:Patch_for_Purists]] - The "Unofficial <Bethesda Game Here> Patch", for Morrowind and OpenMW. Fixes a bunch of bugs, oversights, and glitches all throughout the game.
* [https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/47588 Expansion Delay] - Delays the quests that start the expansion quests until a more reasonable time in a player character's life.
* [https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/53130 Basic Needs for OpenMW] - A survival needs mod patching in hunger, thirst, and rest requirements. May be a bit too aggressively tuned so the configuration was frequently changed for many characters involved in the [[Uncertain Sign Dragon Break]].
* [https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/53174 Pickpocket Rebalance for Open MW] - rather than completely replacing the pickpocket mechanics (which appears to be a misfeature), tunes the difficulty to at least be possible from lower levels.
